Vegan chili cheese fries are a super fun and hearty dinner that you’d never guess is made with simple, whole food ingredients.
Happy first Monday after Christmas! Not one of my favorite days of the year, but with the baby coming in about a month, my spirits are still as high and excited as ever. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with loved ones, and that you’re ready for a new, fresh start for 2021 in just a few days.
Remember that chili we made last week? So good. Today, we’re using that plus this legit low-fat cheese sauce to make VEGAN CHILI CHEESE FRIES.
I know, vegan chili cheese fries made with simple, healthy, whole food ingredients…thank me later.
Ingredients for vegan chili cheese fries
- Sweet potato fries: I highly recommend Japanese or a purple sweet potato for the best texture and flavor, but use whatever sweet potato you like best. You’ll cut them into fries and bake or air-fry until they’re crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside.
- Chili: this vegan chili is such a good pair with both the fries and the cheese sauce, and it’s made with simple ingredients.
- Low-fat cheese sauce: cheese sauce on top brings it all together, and it’s made with just a few healthy ingredients (including more sweet potato!).
Tips for making vegan chili cheese fries
- Prep all the components beforehand for easy assembly at dinnertime. I recommend prepping the chili and cheese sauce beforehand, so that at dinner all you have to make is the fries. This just makes for easier assembly and less going on in the kitchen, and both the chili and cheese sauce keep well in the fridge.
- Make them your own. After the three base components, have fun with the toppings. I love some green and red onion, hot sauce, and a drizzle of vegan yogurt.
These vegan chili cheese fries are seriously such a fun dinner for a weekend watching football, or really any night of the week you want something super comforting and satisfying, but still made with healthy ingredients. There’s just something about pouring a bunch of chili over gooey sweet potato fries that never fails to be amazing.

Vegan Chili Cheese Fries
Ingredients
- 1 sweet potato, cut into thick fries and baked in the oven or air fryer until crisp on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. Your air fryer settings will vary, but in the conventional oven I typically do 400 degrees fahrenheit for about 30 minutes. Just keep an eye on them and cook to your liking.

Instructions
- Cook your sweet potato fries.
- While the fries are baking, if you haven't already, make the chili and cheese sauce. If they're already prep, heat them up in the microwave.
- When the fries are out of the oven, top with the chili, cheese sauce, and whatever other toppings you like.
