Happy February from the sweetest lil cookies.
I’ve been SO excited to share these vegan Valentine’s Day chocolate strawberry cookies with you guys. I mean, how fun would it be to make these for your sweetheart on the 14th? Or like, for yourself, tomorrow. Either works!
I’ve said it before and I stand by it – I’m a fan of Valentine’s Day. I love my husband so damn much and of course I let him know that every day, but if there’s a fun, sweet holiday all about loved ones, I’m absolutely going to take advantage of it and shower my guy with even more love.
And what’s a better way to show love than by baking up some cookies? Specifically, rich, dark chocolate cookies, drizzled with more chocolate, sprinkled with a literal dusting of tart, sweet strawberry.
Let’s get into the good stuff!
Ingredients for vegan valentine’s day chocolate strawberry cookies
- Almond flour: almond flour gives the cookies a nice nutty flavor and a soft, chewy texture, while keeping them totally gluten and grain free.
- Cocoa powder: cocoa brings rich chocolate flavor.
- Date sugar: date sugar provides natural, fruit sweetness for the cookie dough.
- Applesauce: a bit of unsweetened applesauce helps bring the cookie dough together and keeps them soft and moist.
- Vanilla extract: a little vanilla helps round out all the chocolate flavor going on.
- Vegan dark chocolate bar: get a chocolate bar that you know melts well. I like using unsweetened baker’s bars, or the Lily’s stevia-sweetened bars, but you can use any vegan chocolate you like to melt and drizzle over the cookies.
- Freeze dried strawberries: you’ll blend the freeze dried strawberries into a powder to sprinkle over the cookies after the melted chocolate, so that it sticks and adds lots of sweet, strawberry flavor.
Tips for making vegan valentine’s day chocolate strawberry cookies
- Roll out the dough, cut cookies, then re-roll. Just like at Christmastime, you’ll press out the dough into an even layer and use your heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out as many hearts as you can, re-rolling out the dough as necessary. If you don’t want to cut out hearts (cause let’s be real, these are amazing any time of year), shape them into circular cookies, place on the baking sheet, and bake.
- While the cookies cool, prep the chocolate drizzle and freeze dried strawberries. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, and put the strawberries in a small blender and blend until they’re powder. Drizzle each cookie with melted chocolate, sprinkle with freeze dried strawberry dust, and that’s it! The sweetest cookies for your sweetie.
These vegan Valentine’s Day chocolate strawberry cookies are rich, chewy, and so so chocolatey. As always, the chocolate + strawberry flavor combination does not disappoint. Whether it’s on Valentine’s Day or not, you need them in your life.

Vegan Valentine’s Day Chocolate Strawberry Cookies
Ingredients
Chocolate Strawberry Cookies:
- 1 1/2 cups almond flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup date sugar (I haven't tried with a different granulated sweetener, but coconut sugar would probably also work)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Optional Decoration:
- 1/4 dark chocolate bar, melted – I used a Lily's Sweets baking bar because they melt well, but you can use any vegan dark chocolate you like
- 1/2 cup freeze dried strawberries, blended into powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, mix the almond flour, cocoa powder, and date sugar.
- Add the applesauce and vanilla and mix until everything is combined into a thick dough – I start using a spoon, then use clean hands to mix everything together.
- Use clean hands to press and spread the dough into an even layer on a piece of parchment or wax paper, then use a heart-shaped cookie cutter (mine is about 4 inches in height) to cut out as many cookies as you can. Re-shape the dough into an even layer and repeat until all the dough is gone.
- Place the cookies on a lined cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes. If you use a much smaller cookie cutter, you may need to bake for less time.
- Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 20 minutes before removing.
- If desired, melt the dark chocolate and drizzle over the cookies, then sprinkle with freeze dried strawberry powder.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
