Vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal is crunchy, naturally sweet, and will totally take you back to childhood. The opposite of typical, sugary cereals, this is made with just 3 ingredients, and is completely gluten free, healthy and naturally sweetened!
CUCKOO FOR FREAKING HEALTHY COCOA PUFFS.
Say hello to vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal, my cutest, most fun, bite-sized recipe to date.
What was your favorite cereal as a child?! Mine was most definitely cocoa puffs. Reese’s puffs occasionally, because chocolate + peanut butter = duh, but cocoa puffs were definitely my go to.
Cereal is such a “fun” memory to me. When I think back on cereals I had as a child, it’s always positive, heart-warming memories, of fun family times or the best conclusion to sleepovers. When reminiscing, I then move to cringing at the thought of the ingredient list on those store-bought cereals. Most of them are about a mile long, and arguably all of them have little to no nutritional value whatsoever.
As a result, friends, today is the day that we eat HEALTHY, VEGAN CEREAL. If you haven’t already realized, I’m a teeny tiny bit excited about this vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal.
Ingredients for vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal
- Rolled oats: you’ll blend the oats to flour consistency, which helps hold the cereal balls together.
- Cocoa powder: cocoa gives the cereal its dark chocolate flavor.
- Medjool dates: blended with water into a paste, dates provide natural, fruit sweetness and the sticky texture to help the cereal come together.
Tips for making vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal
- Measure the rolled oats before blending into flour. I always list the amount of oats used BEFORE they’re blended for flour. So in this case, you’ll measure out 2 cups of whole, rolled oats, then put those 2 cups into your blender to make flour.
- Put your patient pants on. Rolling out the dough into tiny spheres can take a few minutes. Listen to a podcast or some music while you work to help pass the time!
- Let the cereal sit out to get crunchy. After baking, the cereal needs to sit out on the counter for at least 3 hours. This is when it gets that crunchy texture! Because oats are the main component of the cereal, it will soften up a bit when stored in a tupperware container, so you may need to let it sit out again if you want it REALLY crunchy.
This vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal is SO fun to make, and even more fun to eat. It’s perfectly chocolatey, sweet, and crunchy. Being able to enjoy a delicious, fun cereal WITHOUT all the horrible ingredients is so amazing, and even better that it’s chocolate!
I am so, hopelessly in love.
Xo,
Sara
Vegan 3 Ingredient Chocolate Cereal
Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats, blended into flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup date paste – 15 medjool dates blended with 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl combine the oat flour, cocoa powder, and date paste and stir until it forms a thick dough.
- Pinch off about a teaspoon of the dough and roll into a small sphere, then place on a lined baking sheet – repeat until all the dough is on the sheet and bake for 30 minutes.
- Allow the cereal to sit out on the counter for at least 2 hours – this is when it gets crunchy.
- Store in a tupperware at room temperature. It will soften up when stored, so you may need to toast it briefly again if you want it very crunchy after storing.
This recipe is giving me all the carefree, playful, 5-year-old, fun breakfast feels! I don’t even know why, but cereal has so much fun factor and happy memories for me too. Although I was the exact opposite–lucky charms all the way because I thought those chocolate cereals were just way too crazy for breakfast lol. But what is really exciting about this version is how easy it is!! I am amazed, that these little cocoa spheres are made with just 3 ingredients and 3 of my favorite ingredients too. I have to try this, although I totally would eat them all before milk or bowls even entered the scene 😀
Haha yeah I think I’m definitely the minority when it comes to lucky charms! Though I do have to say I’m kind of obsessed with how colorful they are. And I’m right there with you – these are definitely hard to resist popping just a few as you’re rolling, but so fun!! Thanks Natalie 🙂
OMG, Sara! All my husband’s dreams can come true now! I can’t wait to try this…I’m so glad to have found your website 🙂
Heidi, I’m SO glad to have found yours as well, it is absolutely beautiful and I feel like we’re on the same page when it comes to how simple, delicious, but still decadent being plant-based can be! can you make this with stevia instead of datepaste? 😀
Hi, Camilla! I’m sure that stevia would be fine in terms of taste, but you would need some kind of wet ingredient, maybe almond milk, since you’d only have 3 dry ingredients if you switched to stevia. I’ve never tried it, let me know what you do and how it goes! 🙂

Hi – can’t wait to try.
May I ask is this recipe for 1 person serving?
Hi Anne, this recipe will make multiple servings! I’m sorry that isn’t noted in the recipe, if I’m remembering correctly I believe it should make between 2-3 cups. Hope that helps!
