Now that it’s June and the weather is amazing here in Detroit lately, I’m in full on summer mode.

Summertime for me means as much time outside as I can get + all the fruit I can eat! And that means plenty of smoothies. Today I’ve got 3 smoothies for summer for ya, each made with a few simple + healthy ingredients and loaded with nutrition. I’m not the type to use 50+ ingredients in smoothies – you guys know I keep things really simple. So when I’m making a smoothie each ingredient is there for a purpose, whether it’s sweet flavor, creamy texture, or lots of plant powered nutrition.

We’re using Good Karma Foods Plantmilk as the base for each smoothie flavor, and I definitely recommend you pick some up from your Fresh Thyme store rather than making a swap for the liquid. Plantmilk comes in Original, Vanilla, and Chocolate flavors, and all 3 are made with a mix of oat, pea, and flax.

SUCH a good decision to mix the three, because it means plantmilk has the super creamy and rich texture of oat milk, the protein boost from peas, and plenty of omega-3s from the flax. It’s a great alternative to other nondairy milks that are much lower in protein and lacking omega-3s, and seriously, the creamy texture is SO good and perfect for smoothies!

One of these 3 smoothies for summer is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth with a few natural + healthy ingredients. We’ve got a lean green, berry blast, and triple chocolate smoothie, so let’s get blending, shall we?

Ingredients for lean green smoothie

  • Frozen banana: super ripe banana gives the smoothie sweetness and creamy texture.
  • Frozen mango: frozen mango gives the smoothie great tropical, summery fruit flavor.
  • Spinach: a few handfuls of spinach add the nutrition of dark leafy greens to the smoothie, and you really can’t even taste them with all the fruit going on!
  • Good Karma Original Plantmilk: I love the Original Plantmilk in this smoothie, it adds protein, omega-3s and a super creamy texture.

Ingredients for berry blast smoothie

  • Frozen banana: super ripe banana gives the smoothie sweetness and creamy texture.
  • Frozen strawberries: frozen strawberries give the smoothie great flavor and sweetness.
  • Frozen blueberries: frozen blueberries add lots of antioxidants and more sweet flavor.
  • Good Karma Vanilla Plantmilk: I use the vanilla plantmilk for this smoothie, it adds a boost of protein, omega-3s and a hint of vanilla flavor to complement the berries.

Ingredients for triple chocolate smoothie

  • Frozen banana: super ripe bananas give the smoothie sweetness and creamy texture.
  • Cacao powder: cacao adds chocolatey flavor + tons of antioxidants.
  • Cacao nibs: cacao nibs add more antioxidants and a nice little crunch – I blend some into the smoothie and sprinkle a few more on top for texture.
  • Good Karma Chocolate Plantmilk: the Chocolate Plantmilk is a must for this smoothie, it adds protein, omega-3s and ridiculously rich chocolate flavor and creamy texture.

Tips for making the best smoothie

  • Freeze your bananas when they’re super ripe. Always wait to freeze bananas until they’re super ripe and spotty. This is when they have the most sweetness and banana flavor.
  • Use frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is going to be at peak ripeness, meaning it’s packed with sweet flavor + nutrition.
  • Add liquid nutrition with Plantmilk. Plantmilk will add a boost of protein to the smoothie, meaning you’ll feel satisfied longer. It also has omega-3s for even more nutrition, and the creamy texture is perfect for smoothies!
  • Change up the flavor + add even more nutrition with mix-ins. All of these smoothie flavors are a great base for you to add even more flavor + nutrient-dense ingredients. These are a few of my favorites:
    • Ground flax for even more omegas
    • Hemp seeds for healthy fats + protein
    • Cacao powder for rich chocolate flavor + antioxidants
    • Nut butter for satisfying healthy fast and rich texture
    • Oats for some healthy whole grains

You really can’t go wrong with any of these 3 smoothies for summer. I’m a chocolate girl all the way, but honestly the lean green was my fav, so much fruity goodness + leafy greens.

Servings 1 smoothie

Ingredients
  

Lean Green Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 2 handfuls fresh spinach
  • 1 1/2 cups Good Karma original plantmilk

Berry Blast Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 1/2 cups Good Karma vanilla plantmilk

Triple Chocolate Smoothie

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 1 1/2 cups Good karma chocolate plantmilk

Instructions
 

  • For whichever flavor you're making, add all the ingredients to a high speed blender until totally smooth. Feel free to add a little more/less plantmilk to get the texture you like.
