Vegan Simple Green Smoothie

This vegan simple green smoothie is my favorite when I want a nutrient-rich, satisfying, easy smoothie.

Vegan Simple Green Smoothie

I’m sort of a self-proclaimed nutrition nerd. I love learning about different foods and the amazing health benefits they have, then figuring out how to incorporate them into my daily diet so that they’re tasty and I get the added bonus of their nutrition.

Nutrition is very confusing for a lot of people. We’re keeping things super simple with this smoothie, which has just 5 ingredients you’re probably familiar with. You don’t have to have expensive, weird “superfoods” to eat a healthy diet! Plus, they pack a nutrient-dense punch and this smoothie will definitely energize you for a great day.

Ingredients for a vegan simple green smoothie

  • Frozen banana: a great source of fiber and resistant starch that aids with digestion, as well as antioxidants for heart health. Bananas give the smoothie creamy, rich texture. Make sure it’s super ripe before freezing, so that you get optimal sweet taste!
  • Frozen blueberries: said to be the most nutrient-dense berry, blueberries are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and manganese. They are loaded with antioxidants called anthocyanins, shown to be protective against free radical damage and cancer. Regular blueberry intake has also been shown to reduce blood pressure. Frozen berries give the smoothie more creaminess, and great sweet flavor!
  • Flaxseed: flax is rich in antioxidants and is a great source of essential omega-3 fats, which help to prevent cancer cells from growing. Flax can also improve cholesterol and heart health. Grinding up the seeds in the smoothie makes it possible for your body to absorb all the amazing nutrients. Without grinding flax, you won’t absorb much and they’ll just pass through.
  • Vegan protein powder: the protein powder I use is made with just 5 recognizable, food ingredients, and it’s totally vegan, gluten free, GMO free, and has no gums, artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. I almost always add protein powder to smoothies because it helps with satiation, meaning you won’t be hungry 20 minutes after you drink it.
  • Kale: dark leafy greens are one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat. Kale is extremely high in nutrients and very low in calories. Just one cup of raw kale has over an entire day’s worth of needed vitamin A, K, and C. It’s also full of antioxidants to fight cancer and can lower cholesterol, decreasing risk for heart disease. It’s a great source of the minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which many people struggle to get enough of. Clearly we need more kale in our diets, and putting it in a smoothie is a really easy way to get SO much nutrition without even tasting it! Start with just a few leaves if you’re new to greens in a smoothie, and really load it up as you grow to love the flavor.

Tips for making a vegan simple green smoothie

  • Freeze your bananas when they’re super ripe. Always wait to freeze bananas until they’re super ripe and spotty. This is when they have the most sweetness and banana flavor.
